the woman who breaks the norm

Usually after you've entered an elevator (aka lift), you will do an about-turn and face the door, right? But I saw something interesting at my workplace.

This woman (not very nice to call her an auntie though) entered the lift, and continued to face inwards. At first I thought she was with the group of women and was listening to their conversation. But apparently they don't know her and they were going to different floor. She really looked like she was with them the way she looked at their faces while they talked. The lift was far from being packed, and it only has 1 exit. If it has exits on both sides, I still can understand.

I just find it weird.

Reminds me of this lesson on body language, in which they conducted an experiment with a group of people entering the lift and facing inwards, cornering the other amused passengers. Can be very disturbing.

  • face inwards? then how did she know when to get off the elevator? spooky, are you sure you're not the only one who saw her?

  • oh the elevator announces the level with a female voice :P

I'm sure I wasn't the only one finding her weird.

  • strange behavior...
    or strange woman.

usually i'll face outwards, towards the door, if i don't know anyone else in the lift.

cos it feels wierd and seemed like staring at others...

  • if the lift is packed like sardine can until cannot even turn, then nothing to say lah. But she was like moving right into people's conversation... and looking at each one who spoke.

  • Sometimes no space to turn around. I also face whichever direction i am at whenever it is too packed. No point turning around, but remember to press the button of your floor!

  • i think she's either nosy or weird.

but come to think of it, it's not rare to observe people with strange behaviour in the lift nowadays.

  • hmm, i wonder if you are one of those who like to observe people from head to toe in the lift :P

  • Me?? *innocent eyes*
I'm actually the opposite. I feel uneasy making eye contact in the lift unless it's a cute little kid:D
Besides I don't think my eyes can reach up to the top of everyone's head.
I think you're more of that kind la.
