coffee water from tap

Yesterday when I reached home, I turned on the water tap and what came out was coffee (colour) water! You will think I should get high since it's coffee, but no it wasn't coffee, but some yucky mixture with dunno rust or mud smell. I didn't test its taste though.

What happened was, the town council had just changed the water pipes and mains in our block (and filled the water tanks with coffee).

I'm not into fluid mechanics but let me try. In a real pipe flow, the velocity at the wall is zero, thus all the sediments got deposited there and stayed there. When they changed the pipes, they had to switch off the supply and let out the remaining water inside the pipes. Air took over the volume. Then when they turned on the supply again, the water came rushing into the empty pipes under pressure and push all the crap inside the pipes.

My toilet's water tank was filled with "coffee".

So next time after they have changed your pipes, let the water run for a while before using.

  • just 2 months back in UBC (Vancouver), the water supply at the students' residence also has shit colour and has chunks of black stuff in it. god knows what is that but my roommates say its the melting snow that polluted the water.

  • I was in China with my mum for a holiday a few years back. When we reached ANY hotel, first thing we did before unpacking or bathing was to switch on ALL the taps and let the water run... ALL "coffee" lor.
There was one hotel where the shower tap was running clean and clear water already, but the sink tap was still running "coffee", so we use the water from the shower tap to brush teeth instead.

  • jenny: how did the melting snow get into the supply network??

arsene: "The URL contained a malformed video ID"

paced: I heard that in hk they saw water slug from the tap!

  • Interesting article of the tap theory.
If we apply it to our own intestinal gastros and stop any intake of fluid for a minimum period of 8 hours, the next time if we were to consume fluid, the the probability of toxics being drained out in our body system might work as well.

A part engineering reasoning as to why we need to "fast"?
Abstainng from food and water for more than 8 hours to purify the body system.

    A wondrous theroy.

Fluid mechanics do actually have a place in the human body system.

  • hi mr nor!

Wow, I didn't know it can work that way! Personally I can't survive without water for a few hours..
