outsourcing problem

I think engineering is one of the few faculties where you can outsource / subcontract your project. Although you can outsource your essay and term paper too, but that sounds a bit less ethical.

And so in trying to get the best and cheapest deal, my design project group went around getting quotations from suppliers. That was never fun, walking under the hot sun at times and the heavy rain at other times (that was how I caught a cold), going to inaccessible industrial areas where even a dog won't want to crap there. But eventually the quotations price get better.

On the other hand, a few of my groupmates' friend is a metal supplier. We asked if he has any connection to clients who can do the fabrication. At first the price we got wasn't that fantastic, so as consumer we opted for the cheaper (but not necessarily inferior) choice. After knowing that we are choosing an external supplier, this supplier friend called and talked to me for full half hour last night (at least he talked to one of my groupmates for 1 hour.) I dunno what was going on between this supplier friend and his client, but apparently he wants us to patronise him so as not to damage their relationship.

My fault?

How did outsourcing a problem become a problem itself?
