fare or not fair

That day I was on the bus and saw this girl boarding. She looked like she was fumbling for her wallet or searching for her ez-link card or coins to pay the bus fare. After spending some time near the driver seat with all the actions, she went to sit down. Without paying. I don't recall seeing the bus driver waving (and waivering) her off.

I have seen another kind of reaction before. The person would actually borrow money from another passenger (usually a stranger) to pay the bus fare. When I say borrow, it usually means not going to be returned. I have lent money to old aunties before.

So, would you rather owe a stranger money, or owe the bus company money?

Of course you can also get loose change from other passengers with your notes (NOT lecture notes)

Anyway the strange thing is, I saw a lanyard on that girl. Couldn't see if there was an ez-link card or not though.

  • I saw this boy who got up the bus he put his EZ link to the machine and there wasn't enough in the card. He tried again and still not enough. He started to panic a bit and dig for coins. But all that he had was just 20 cents. Then the bus driver started scolding him, shouting at him to get off the bus. But the boy said he lived quite far away and me knowing the place well I know he couldn't walk home... So I went up and paid for him.

I don't mind paying that few cents for strangers la. There are a lot of tourists in my area all blurblur one... Yesterday I just helped 3 of them. I guess it's ok unless I see the same guy doing this often.

Thanks man I'm going to blog about this.

  • I have been caught in the same situation before, EZ-link no $$$, no coins. Somehow I am pretty lucky the bus driver will just allow me to board

  • bimbim: wah need to scold or not, not like the kid purposely want to cheat like that lor.

Oh, have you seen people imitating the card reader beep sound? =P

arzhou: I guess this kind of things do happen. But I guess if the bus conductor catch, the driver will be answerable or something.

  • what's a lanyard?

there was a period when i kept tapping my matric card, mistaking it for my ezlink card. And i wasn't stopped at all... i think i only realised it after a week..

but then again, it's very embarrassing to be stopped by the bus uncle. my mom says that i have a face that bus drivers won't pick on. my sis always gets picked on by the uncle. Haha.

LOL, how did you get pass the bus uncle with your matric card?!?! Did you make the beep sound yourself??

And why would the bus uncle pick on your sister? What did she do?
