singaporean from golden triangle

One of the sites I visited during my recent trip to Northern Thailand was the Golden Triangle. Basically the Golden Triangle is the place where the boundaries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet, something like the triple point of water. You can just swim across the border (which is the river), and if you can make it alive in the strong current, no one bothers, don't need passport.

Oh the Golden Triangle is famous for opium.

On the way back to Chiang Mai along the highway, got stopped by 3 checkpoints manned by soldiers armed with M-16A2 rifles and not-so-cute doggies. At the first checkpoint I had to empty my backpack and the soldiers were like examining every piece of stuff inside, unrolling my clothes, etc. But they were very polite and that's the nice thing. Second checkpoint onwards, the driver was telling the sentry something blah blah blah singapore and the soldiers let us off without checking.

For a while I was proud of my nationality.
(just don't bring in the Temasek Holdings stuff or they may be pointing their weapons at us)
