20 cents daylight robbery

The other day I was at a cafe for tea break, I went to the drinks stall, grabbed a canned drink from the fridge and paid at the counter. $1.20.

After walking about 10 steps, I walked past a vending machine (which is inside the premise of the cafe) and accidentally looked at the price tag.... the same canned drink cost $1.00.

What the... Why would they do such thing!! 20 cents labour cost?

10 steps for 20 cents cheaper, so if I ran a marathon (42km) then I would have gotten the drink even cheaper?

  • The cafe has higher rental and labour costs. The machine has a smaller footprint and it is self-served.

But, daylight robbery does not occur in the cafe alone. It is everywhere now.

  • I had worse experience than that. I once bought shampoo @ NTUC for $7; Ferrero Roche @ Watson for $10.

In the end I realized that the Ferrero was on sale @ NTUC for $7+ & Watson was selling that shampoo @ $5+...

  • hi spyer! I got a feeling the vending machine is operated by the cafe as well, since it is inside the cafe... from the consumer's point of view, i was pretty dumb =P

LoL lly!!! That is really funny!!! But sometimes I'm too lazy to compare price like some aunties, so just grab what is available even at higher price.

  • Yes, you will get the drink at a cheaper price if you run a marathon. In fact, they give it to you for free. :D

  • *ahem*

I'm no auntie... but I compare prices if it concerns my everyday life stimulant!

Like now I know a can of Nescafe at 7-Eleven is $1.80 while the mama store sells it at $1.20. Sometimes 7-Eleven got promotion '2 cans for $2', but only in CBD area. Otherwise your friendly neighbourhood stores sell a pack of 6 at $2.75-$3.00. And then... eh please, I'm not aunite okay!

P.S. Do you know Starbucks has a new product available in Cold Storage - Italian Roast Coffee in tin cans @ $3.90 each. It's nice. You should check it out.

  • dk: erm.. they don't charge you $30+ for StanChart for nothing.

missy: woots! ok ok you not auntie, you are < insert age here. please check missy's blog for her age >. Sometimes I waste more bus fare when I compare price for stuff, that's a bit extreme.

Wow... in cans? not the double shot that one ar? ok I must try it out, but then i scare later the parents will niam with their 70-cents-kopi-mentality.

  • Oh You would LOVE my mother then. She frowned when I only took 2 cans from the shelf, "Two cans where got enough??"

I think it's single shot. I got bought it from SengKang Cold Storage. Haven't seen it else where...
