virgin or non-virgin textbook

Was planning to buy the Vector Mechanics: Dynamics textbook. NUS co-op is selling at $30. My favourite Clementi is selling at $28. Market price for second-hand on IVLE forum is $25.

So I had to decide. Very much I would like to save resources (money and trees and ink and wadeva) and buy a second-hand one, but if a brand new 8th edition book costs about the same as a second-hand used 7th edition, then it made perfect sense to buy a new one.

And then at an used-book sale I found a second-hand 7th edition selling at $10. It's now mine.

It's not in the best of condition, but the pages are clean. You know, it's like reading library books. It feels kind of wonderful knowing so many people have gotten knowledge from the books and sharing and passing on. Anyway I wonder how many library books have me as their first reader. =)

(It's like girls. A virgin girl may not always be good and an non-virgin one may not be all bad. Maybe I shan't be so particular about it. But I have my personal reason for it...

But it's way easier to find a virgin book than a virgin girl)

  • i rarely buy brand new textbooks. actually the price for a 2nd hand book in reasonably gd condition is abt 30-40% less than the original price.

i take care of my 2nd hand books, and later, re-sell it to another junior for almost the same price as i bought hahaha...

    *smart girl*

the smell of a fresh, clean, brand new, just off-the-press textbook is great, of course, but it makes no sense to buy a new one when u can save so much using a 2nd hand one. in addition, u're saving trees, ink. bla bla bla. and face it, none of us wil re-read the textbook after this semester ends... and why waste ur hard-earned money (assuming u are a poor student like me who has to teach tuition and work at part time jobs to earn pocket money)?

  • smart girl, daphne!

hoho that time I sold my second hand textbook for higher price, that means I made a profit~ hohoho. But nowadays publishers like to have new edition like every other year, kinda hard to sell also.

For us engineering, some books can be kept as tool books, so not that bad.

I really admire the energy you have to have extra earnings while studying.

  • Eh...Clementi selling at $28 only meh? I thought I saw the price tag stated $42. Hmm...maybe I'm too obsesses with the Fluid Mech textbook. Well, if I know the 'actual' selling price, usually I'll lower it by $10 and sell to my juniors. Anyway, I had a good trade-in deal for a Fluid Mech texbook, quite contented:) Great success!! • yup the old version was more expensive. Sounds like counter-inflation...

ok lah at least you are happy with the deal~

  • I just sold 4 out of 5 old textbooks=)

Usually i buy new textbooks especially those that i need for most of my life science modules.

And i saw those last few super teenie weenie lines... haha. Like my mom always says, guys are very selfish, they like fooling out with girls when they are young, but when they settle down, they prefer a virgin for a wife -_-.

  • I used to be quite particular about buying new textbook, then along the way I realize it's not the age of the book but how one harnesses the knowledge inside. I can have all new books but not use the book and get lousy grade, or I can get old books, squeeze all the juice from it and get good grades. Of cos, grades is not everything...

hello? not all guys are like that. There are guys who don't fool around. But this kind of dinosaurs are worthless. Which girl would want a guy who doesn't fool around nowadays?

By Blogger chillycraps, at 8/24/2007 10:24:00 PM

  • oh gosh...

    Quoted from CC:
hello? not all guys are like that. There are guys who don't fool around. But this kind of dinosaurs are worthless. Which girl would want a guy who doesn't fool around nowadays?

I feel that as much as guys want a girl who is a virgin, there are also girls who want a guy who doesn't fool around. your sentence made girls feel like crap.

Guys fool around = OK? but girls fool around = cheap? What is this?!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8/25/2007 11:16:00 AM

  • bleh, I didn't mean that way. =S

Why would/should I speak for them (guys who fool around)?

anyway anonymous (if that's how you want me to address you), if you haven't been a guy who doesn't fool around, you don't know how he feels. He feels worse than crap and worth less than cheap. The reality is, guys who fool around are the ones getting loved and stuff.

  • Wah wah, I see an argument coming up.

Anyway the stuffs bout guy-fooling-ard & girls-being-virgins that u ppl were talking about, there's a lot of stereotyping. And here's my point of view (I must state that I'm a female, =P)

Firstly, in my opinion, for most guys, if his gf/wife is a virgin, of cos he'll be happy lah, but if she isn't, he doesn't mind also (if he minds, I think I'll slap him if I'm the gf/wife, haha).

2ndly, I think CC shld change his sentence to "it's way easier to find a virgin book than a virgin". U think it's easier to find a virgin guy meh? I think not.

3rdly, I dunno bout other girls but for all the girls who are closer to me (except for 1), they will want a guy who don't fool around. Where got sense of security when the guy fools around?

But hmmm... wat's ur definition of "fooling around"? Different ppl has different views on that

And btw, I prefer 2nd hand book, cos I'll be able to see the impt pts that the previous owner highlighted. Haha

    By Blogger Am|go, at 8/26/2007 03:19:00 AM

  • bleh.... not really argument lah, it's everyone's own point of view lor.

ok you can slap me, cos for the moment I mind if the girl is not a virgin. But then again, since you are not my gf nor wife, so you can't slap me.

I'm going to play a little word game here. If you compare books and girls, it is still easier to find a virgin book than a virgin girl. Make sense? I'm not discounting the fact that virgin boys are hard to find too.

Yup, the definition of fooling around..... is it sexual or emotional? Fooling around in the past or fooling around while attached?

Now to paint a clearer picture, if the guy is a virgin, don't you think it is acceptable that he wants the girl to be virgin too? To me I think it is a fair wish.
