reply from land transport authority

Land Transport Authority (LTA)'s reply to my suggestion:
We refer to your email of 11 July 2007.

Your suggestion to have separate quiet train car is under the purview of SMRT Corporation Ltd (SMRT). We will, by copy of this email, refer your suggestion to them for their attention and reply to you.

Should you wish to contact SMRT directly on the matter, please refer to their email address below.

We thank you for writing in.

At least it sounds better than SBS Transit's reply.

  • Check this out.

Spokespersons from both SBS Transit and SMRT say that staff are empowered to fine commuters who irritate others. This is according to a clause in the Rapid Transit System Act. Commuters can inform MRT staff when they encounter other commuters displaying inconsiderate behaviour. If offenders refuse to cooperate after the advice from MRT staff, they can be fined up to $500.

    Exercise your right next time.

  • woots!

Wow, I didn't know that such rules and regulations exist!

But then, looking at how some smokers react to enforcers, I think it's not going to work. Anyway how many people really will take the trouble to make a complaint?

(seems like I'm telling myself to shut up...)
