overtime overture

Minus the security guard, I was like the last guy to leave the office building today. More than 1 hour late. And I ain't even a perm staff.

Other than the urge to spoil market (a project lead was shocked to see me running around, and said that I spoil market. His intern left like half an hour before official knock-off time), I stayed back because there's no dinner at home tonight and schedule is tight for my design. My supervisor wanted the design by this Friday but I managed to complete it today. I am anticipating some bounce-back, so just put in the safety factor of a few days so that I still have enough time to redesign the thing. Frontlog sounds better than backlog.

When you do OT, it can only mean 2 things: either you are damn hardworking, or you are just plain inefficient.

  • Ive been called a workaholic many times. When you realise your personal life has gone up in smoke, that's good news; you're up for a promotion. =D

  • wow so you have been promoted many times! congrats missy!

actually I don't have a personal life to speak of.

  • Yah yah mental promotion, cos my work subjects me to mental torture everyday. hah!

I'm sure you have a personal life (i.e. this blog)?

  • It's ok Mr Chow.

I also tend to do what you do.

    It's called being professional.

People who can't do that are either damn good as in they finish their work in half the time.

Or they simply can't be bothered.

    It's good to be hardworking!

  • missy: haha, sounds like you got level up everyday!

my blog doesn't feel personal anymore... =(

  • Personally, I deem ot as inefficient. However, living and working in an asian country, ot is taken as hardworking. Personally, I see it as 'wayang'.

Remember don't work hard, but work smart.

By Anonymous swave, at 6/13/2007 11:41:00 PM

  • not unless got OT pay right? =P

I have no more capacity to work smart anymore, cos my job sucks quite a lot of brain juice. So all I am left with is to work hard.

but oopz, my boss didn't know and probably will never know I worked OT.

By Blogger chillycraps, at 6/14/2007 06:14:00 AM

  • I agree with swave.

But somehow in Asia, a lot of pple mix up working smart as 'tai-ji'.

  • that's the problem with the mentality, as many are still sticking to that clock-in clock-out mind.

project-based makes so much more sense. Get the task done and no one cares how much you slack.
