I got rejected 9 times in 6 weeks

Yes I got rejected 9 times within 6 weeks.

I mean my designs.

It's like everytime I let my boss see my design, I more or less expect it to be rejected, bounced back, shot down. The frustrating thing is, some of the parts he rejected actually appeared in earlier designs but he didn't reject them then. I mean had he pointed out those areas earlier, we could have saved much time and effort. My effort. My attitude starts to show. When I'm tired I show attitude.

I feel like a production line that only leads to a tray labelled "REJECT".

  • Chill. After the 10th rejection, things may change. Take it from me, I've been through this.

  • now it's like a battle of endurance, see whether me or my boss runs out of it first. When he runs out of it, he will just go ahead with the design, since he doesn't know how to design and I'm like the only guy available. He wouldn't want to be in a situation where my internship ends and he still can't get anything out.

  • hmm.. put it this way ah..

when i was doing internship.. im used to getting my design rejected twice a day.. daily..

and at the end of my internship.. the design has not been finalised.. cuz the architect changed the design again.. -_-'''

  • hmm...

but if we see it from their pof, of course they want their best money on the best design. But I don't really like the way everything is still on paper.

Hell, my boss a mechatronics PhD doesn't even know how to use a vernier caliper!

  • wahahhaa..

when u reach tat stage.. u surprisingly forgot how to use a lot of things..

just like wad i learn now.. when i go into the industry.. background knowledge needed only..

after a while.. no longer needed anymore.. can pengz.. hahaha.. then a lot of engineers tend to even forget how to calculate.. cuz they use programs to help them calculate.. lol..

  • but just a vernier caliper leh!

  • time to move over to Rhinoceros 3D 4.0 :)

  • you are the second person to tell me about rhino.

Haven't tried it before, but a PhD at my lab said it's not as good as solidworks.

By Blogger chillycraps, at 6/22/2007 06:19:00 AM

  • You can't say which is better. I've tried both and I felt they were different. Rhino is based towards design and complex modelling. Solidworks is based towards easiness of use and polygonal modelling, and rather more towards design engineering. So they're different.

So if you're a designer, rhino is better. If you're an engineer, solidworks is better. see?

  • I see. =P

is it true that rhino gives you the surface feel whereas solidworks gives the solid feel? (that's what I gather)

but what if I'm a design engineer? =P

  • yepp rhino is not solid based, rather surface based modelling. any object will be considered closed/solid if there are no vertex leaks in rhino. you don't get a lot of surface tools in solidworks, just basic extrusion, cut, sweep, loft etc. oh and rhino can do texturing. i'm not too sure if solidworks can do that but the last version i used (2004 & 2005) needed a plug in.

i say if you're a design engineer, go for whichever suits your work better :)

i don't think vernier caliper design calls for rhino tough :/

  • hmm... anyway recently google also has a 3D software free for download.

I think when I have the time I'll try different platform. It's always good to learn and be exposed to more possibilities.

    =)
