Just now when I went to the toilet I saw this cubicle with opened door, and a man standing inside with pants all the way down, and he was pulling the toilet roll...dun they do tat in china?
i was traumatised when i saw a man shitting right in front of me.. when i went to china to visit..
maybe ur guy is chinese..

dj niwde has a point.. many of china's public toilets used to be door-less.. even nowadays there are still some (thou fewer) public toilets like that.. gents i'm not sure.. bUt if they dUn have proper doors in the ladies (partitions only).. dun think they'll have proper doors in the gents.. perphaps the guy's chinese.. used to it.. so he didn bother w the door.. dif way of life la... haha..
my fren has a similar experience in the ladies.. the auntie she saw shitting was also pulling toilet paper.. my fren was so surprised that she just stood there and look at the auntie.. guess wat? the auntie continued to calmly pull more toilet paper and gave my fren the "never see pple shit b4?" look.. *faintz*

after some time in singapore should at least understand that we have the habit of shutting and locking the doors mah. but then again, when guys use urinals also got no doors leh...

jasmine: I've seen the toilet there, pretty interesting. The waste just goes down into the pond in the field. That's for rural area anyway.

I heard about these horror stories about the odd toilet etiquette in China. Fortunately for me, Shanghai didn't freak me out.
I guess shanghai is the least "chinese" city in china. Things like expensive food and stuff as described in your blog... =P
