reverse power surge

Don't connect more than one computer to the same extension socket.

This morning I was using both my desktop and the laptop side by side to test something. After I was done, I shut down the laptop properly (I still needed my desktop running though). Then in the normal proper manner, I unplugged the laptop's power plug from the socket. The moment the copper pins left the socket, my desktop went dead too. I stoned there like "what the..."

Applying what I've learned in ME2143 Sensors & Actuators, there was a sudden drop in magnetic field in the adaptor and blah blah blah...

Not as if I'll design a voltage regulator. Next time just don't connect 2 computers to the same extension socket.

  • After reading the four paragraphs, I'm most impressed by the fact that you are able to apply what you learn from NUS in real life.

Crap, barely months since I left university and I've -completely- forgotten every single thing I studied in SoC.

Nice snowy effect by the way. Very Christmasy :)

  • ermm.. err... I actually applied it to crap, may not be what is happening in actual case =P

your programming modules should have taught you how to think in a flowchart manner right?

Thanks for the comment! =) Just nice according to the Traditional Chinese 24节令 today is 大雪. (big snow)

  • this might be a bit bad, but I initially thought the snow looks like little scraps of foolscap paper fluttering down... a bit weird to be able to see the erm snow crystals? I thought it's too large, just snow like dots is sufficient... maybe can add in one of those christmas hats or something too... Just my opinion...

  • Oh but the snowy effect is interesting. =)

  • well, yar, coz the flakes look quite large, like torn-up foolscap/paper to me... But that's just my opinion, no offense!

I changed my mind. It looks like dandruff... hehz... Ok, is this very evil of me...

  • Haa... Well, at least you still can remember enough of what you have learnt to apply it somewhere... Most people usually just S.A.F. (no, I'm not referring to the SAF and/or "Serve And Forget" but to "Study And Forget"), temporarily store academic information in their RAM and after exams, delete it away...

And, no offence, but I agree with tstar that your "snow" looks like a bit like torn-up paper (hmm... people tearing up their notes after exams?).

Off-topic comment: Freedom! (or at least until 8/1/2007... or until 26/12/2006 when bidding starts?)

  • I can think of torn-up exam papers or notes.

LCC: glad to see that you are enjoying holiday without living in constant fear of your result. Anyway can't do anything about result right? So might as well enjoy the holiday. Afterall they put the result release after christmas.

  • Hmm... I still remember that, a few years back, I got to know that NUS releases its exam results after Christmas from the girls, who are studying in NUS, in my lower secondary school class while during our annual class reunion in the Christmas period...

At that time, I was thinking... On one hand, NUS is very kind not to spoil people's mood of celebrating Christmas by doing so... But on the other hand, it still can spoil people's mood because they may worry about their unknown results when celebrating Christmas, so perhaps NUS is sadistic...

Release of exam results right after Christmas = Christmas present from NUS...? Or coal in the stocking...?

  • wah... that sounds very sadistic!

but like what I said in the earlier comment, there really isn't much we can do about the result during holidays, unless you go and bug your lecturers.

I think people will get used to it once they go up the levels.
