dreams do come true

Dreams do come true!

Swee Chiow

(Autograph from Khoo Swee Chiow, fourth person in the world to complete the Adventure Grand Slam.
That's the only autograph of celebrity that I have)

Do dreams really come true?
Or do people change their dreams when they realise their dreams can't be achieved?
How many people actually bother about dreams, or about dreaming?

Part of my mind still refuses to give up my dream.
That's annoying.

  • Maybe some dreams really do come true if one works hard for it. But some dreams cannot be attained for various reasons, some people then just try to be as close to that dream as possible, or change their dream and at the same time change their attitudes towards those new/old dreams.

Of course ppl still bother about dreams! Some adults but maybe mostly kids/teenagers. I wonder at the difference in dreams that these two groups have... But I think that kids do dream more. Somehow when adult roles are taken, dreams become more realistic, or they might not even have dreams anymore coz it's tiring enough to try and keep up with life. Personally, I find it easier not to dream and find ppl who dare to dream really brave. I know ppl whose dreams seem quite incredible to me.

It might be difficult to just give up on a dream, especially if it was very important. Maybe aim for something else, be as close to the initial dream as possible... and aim for something else at the same time? don't put all eggs in one basket...

  • tstar: sometimes I wonder whether adults have the capacity to dream, especially after they have formed families and etc. Maybe one forgets how to dream when his/her feet are on the ground.

Janan: nah~ you guys saw it, and it's quite troublesome taking it out from under my desk's glass top. By right I'm supposed to look at it whenever I do school work, but ironically I don't do schoolwork at that desk of mine.

Why not I take a photo of it and let you see the pirated version =P?

  • Probably as adult hood sets in, our dreams involve more people around us, as we have interactions with them. In one way or another, we can choose to be happy that we have these people we can incorporate as part of our dreams and we part of someone else's dreams??

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts..." Shakespeare

The 'many parts' one has to play will tie us down, forcing us live in REALITY.. but i guess, dreams can still be woven, to be pursued, to be achieved.

a bird with broken wings that cannot fly '

  • hmm, interation with others seem to be more for practicality and functionality than anything else, let alone dreams.

I do believe dreams can materialise, just that it is a luxury not many possess.

this is a (crappy) engineering blog lah! Just that philo (and other humanities) entries seem to receive better response.
Goes to show how versatile engineering students are. =)

  • Haa... For free, the earlier one & this one is... Charge money for the next one, I will... [practising my Yoda-speak, I am...]

Quoting a relevant(?) passage from an very old blog entry of mine...

"Remember the dreams you had when you were young? I believe that, similar to me, you should have had great & ambitious dreams in your youth. For most of us, in our youth, we would have believed that nothing is impossible for us and felt confident that we could handle anything the world throws at us. However, that was before we grew older. As we grow older, it is most likely that we will encounter events and experience setbacks which, in a positive sense, make us more aware and wiser but which, in a negative sense, discourage and disillusion us. We slowly lose our courage to dream. We become less idealistic and more ‘realistic’. Instead of seeing the beautiful rose, we see the thorns… Like what I mentioned in a previous email to you, idealism is a privilege of youth."

  • hoho, now i must charge for advertisement space for your entry!

it all boils down to being realistic... but it shall stop us from having unrealistic dream also.
