fat or pregnant

Just now on the bus I couldn't tell if the woman was having a tummy or having a baby...

Feel quite guilty for not giving up my seat.

(actually I used to have this sadistic idea. If a fat woman wants to fight for seat with me, I'll happily let her have the seat and suan her about being pregnant...)

  • So the woman is pregnant?

It happened to me before too and I felt darn guilty about it. Initially I couldn't see her stomach, then I couldn't tell if she was was fat or pregnant then when she was standing right beside me, I realized she was preg... but I didn't give up my seat even then. Don't know why I didn't lor.
Sidetrack a bit... Once also saw this woman who is obviously pregnant standing next to a seat of 2 boys. Don't know if the boy was asleep or what, the bus was so crowded that the stomach was sticking into his face liao, he was still sitting there happily.

  • Yah, similiar thing happened to me. I was REALLY sleeping on the train, then when I opened my eyes, I see a bulging stomach. But I didn't gave up my seat cos I quite paiseh already...

The same goes to when u see some ppl, u dunno if he/she is an elderly... like white hair, but dun look old... or with black hair, but looks old...

  • yea... sometimes i have this problem too. and the thing is that, i really pity the pregnant women in their first trimester cos they are more vulnerable to miscarriages.

i think singapore should have a culture of asking (politely) for a seat if one really needs it. this was how it was like when i was in europe, needy people would politely ask for seats from the healthy looking people.

and erm... i don't think your thought is very sadistic, it's quite ingenious. hehehe~

  • haha, interesting encounters you all have!

in Chinese it's called 将错就错, although it's not really being "bad" or illegal when you don't give up seats.

xxoos: hmm ask and you'll be given huh? I think the culture here makes it difficult. Ppl scare they will lose face like that when they ask for seat. But sometimes if a third person ask on behalf, you also feel buay song leh...

  • actually talkin bout culture....

I was in Korea in Feb. My frens & I were taking a train & we sat @ these red seats cos they were the only ones that weren't taken.

We were then told by the locals on the train not to take those seats and pointed to the sign behind it. [The seats are supposed to be for elderlies, children or pregnant ladies]

MayB we shld have this kinda culture too, then we wun be so paiseh the next time round we see a bulging stomach =D

  • but that would be a bit like wasting resources, if there are no needies onboard the bus, yet you want to take up the seats...

4 years ago I went to Perth and on their train they have this system that since kids pay halfprice, they must give up their seats to adults. But if there are empty seats and no adults standing, the kids can take the seats.
