quote of the day
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.
William Shakespeare
I wonder, if we are all acting, then where are all our true selves?
When we act, are we lying?
Our world is so full of acts and lies.

Since we are infants, others tell us what to do, what to think and feel, etc. Left to themselves, many humans would not turn out very good - selfish, demanding, tantrums, etc. Some already do this even as adults.
We act, to fit in with the group we are in (friends, family, society, clubs, etc.). There are things we can say and others we can't and an extreme we can go to or not go to. If you told everyone how you felt about everything, and were totally honest according to how you felt at that moment - you would not have friends.
People often don't want the truth but enough of it to confirm how they think but not all the truth and nothing but the truth. We like sweetened truth or even lies (You look good in that; No that does not make you look fat).
We act to make it thru the life we are living. There are times and moments when we are more of our selves in all its glory and stink.
We take on roles others have defined and even we have defined (a person who is a....... needs to act like this and not like that) (that's not what a good girlfriend, boyfriend, parent, husband, wife, cop, polician, minister, good worker, boss, etc. would think or do)
We don't even know ourselves until we get into situations that challenge who we think we are or call certain things from inside us.
Until we are more comfortable with who we are that we've discovered, we act to protect ourselves and to fit in with certain others. We are social animals and need connection so we don't want to be rejected too much. Being isolated too much works against our good mental and spiritual health.
We act - that's the way we are will always be - it's just how can you act around which other person - who can you trust to be what way to what degree?
